Chemo caps to save hair

The United States Food and Drug administration announced that it has allowed the marketing of the DigniCap  made in Sweden and is the first to pass FDA Scrutiny.

The DigniCap to chill patients’ scalps is connected to a cooling machine as the patient receives chemotherapy. A positive outcome of a study found that this reduced hair loss. This idea has been around for decades with several versions of the cap available around the world.

It is said the near freezing temperatures reduces the blood flow in the scalp, making it more difficult for cancer fighting drugs to reach and destroy the hair follicles. Hopefully this treatment will be available in Australia.
